The Golden Age of Piracy marked the high point of piracy in the New World and brought all sorts of pirates. But no one was born a pirate, they had to choose to be one. Such a man is Edward Teach, Blackbeard would call history.

A towering figure at more than six feet, probably Edward Teach was born in Bristol. A runaway, he joined a British Privateer service in Queen Anne's War. After the war ended with little to do, he turned full time pirate captain in the service of the piratesBenjamin Hornigold. Successful in his office Hornigold was a captured sloop, Blackbeard and together the two pirate terror into the sea. But Blackbeard soon fly solo for a pardon Hornigold and pensioners took leave with several vessels, including a 26 gun merchant ships Blackbeard, the Queen Anne's Revenge.

With its flagship the Queen Anne, manages a fleet of Black Beard four ships and over 300 pirates to buy at the peak of his career. Legionnaire Success Lessons

The French Foreign Legion was founded 1831st Their spiritual home and old training centers in the former colonial power in French North Africa, although they now practice primarily in southern France. What made the legendary force were and still are? What success can we learn from them?

Recently twelve volunteers elected to four weeks, do the basic training in Legion style in the Western Sahara. They were the hard, but experienced and encouraging regime of threeEx-Legionnaires Sergeant Chief Peter Hauser, Sergeant Glenn Ferguson and Corporal Richard Sutter

Their experience was filmed by Channel 4 TV, and can teach us much about motivation and success. I have also spoken to Sergeant Glenn Ferguson and won some more insights into motivated him and the other legendary Legionaries.

He joined the Legion at the age of 19. He was initially by fear of punishment and then motivated by pride. He hated to fail at everything and could alsoappreciate the pride of an elite group. One of his favorite sayings is:

"You will never be best if you can constantly down at the bar, the weaker members to join"

During the program, the three ex-Legionnaires appeared sharp for some of the volunteers who leave a bell as a symbol of their desire, the group ring. They wanted to weed out the weak. Legionnaires with low standards can kill their fellow legionnaires.

Elite groups have not the timeto tolerate the weak or half-heartedly. They only want members who are willing to give 100% use. They would rather the "losers" (people who are lazy and half-heartedly) not to join. Another saying of Sergeant Glenn Ferguson is also this:

"Unless you come to stay, to be the best, then with the other losers"

In the modern world where everyone is called upon to connect everything must be, that seems quite old-fashioned and elitist, but note that this is useful, in fact, saystoday. It is not to say that the best before you join.

You must just want to be the best. This leaves room for the less talented as long as they have the right attitude. Any weakness will be leaving soon, as they endure the pain of hard training regime of the Legion.

When the sergeant commented to his suffering charges in the TV program:

"Pain is weakness in your body"

Some of the volunteers began training as a "weak", butas "strong" end. A former legionnaire comments in the program when he joined the Legion, he believed he could do nothing. When he left after five years, he thought he could do nothing. Such faith is a key element in any success.

I was a teacher for over 30 years in London comprehensive schools. Everyone is accepted in these schools, whether they are "weak" or "strong" are. They are all given the opportunity to learn. Unfortunately, a minority, not only "weak", theyso do not "strong" or too lazy to be "strong" and they do not want someone else to be "strong."

If such a lazy and disruptive students to leave the school, the rest make much faster progress and may even enjoy their education. A touch of French Foreign Legion attitude towards the half-hearted and disturbing improve his and our comprehensive system.

Occasionally, a "loser" is reflected in my martial arts classes, they do not want difficult, except for the bits they workand enjoy distract the others. The French Foreign Legion, as a rule do not give lazy people a second chance. They are on their ear immediately, or are quickly disciplined to accept the rules.

I was impressed by the French Foreign Legion "aperitif". This took the form of 10 pull-ups before dinner. The volunteers found this hard as most of us would.

Sgt Glenn Ferguson explained that this "cocktail" was important in combat.It has to end, no miles on foot and then not be able to pull himself up on a wall, if you travel reached the site of the battle. Upper body strength is essential for a soldier. One of the Sergeant's favorite places say makes the point:

A man can not pull its own weight is a waste of oxygen

I particularly liked the "aperitif" exercise, because it relates to daily efforts on a precise time. Any consistent daily effort produced impressive results. Performing the drill bita meal or reward is also a great idea. After an immediate reward for an action makes it easier to perform the action. Daily efforts are a key factor in any success story.

Sergeant Chief Peter Hauser, who served with the Legion's elite Parachute Regiment of the world, taught the volunteers of the weapons and tactics of the legion.

The volunteers were in similar field (in the Western Sahara) to that in which the Legion in the sixties were the last lineFrance's colonial empire collapsed defense.

Simon Murray was a legionary of 1960 to 1965. He described the huge amount of equipment a legionnaire who had to:

"Got it's a hard life, because you, six days' rations, you probably have the performance was over 40 kilos, and you have 4 hand grenades. You have 200 shots came ammunition, you've got an assault rifle, you've got a few bottled water, you have a shovel, you have got your sleeping bag kit and half a tent you have altogether.depressed and very often do you go phil u l and a long, long, long slog hard and often men would be done completely and break down, and then the sergeant would kick it and push on them and they would start to cry. Perhaps you have a fever, you may have the that the other. No one has a damn. "

The ruthless attitude of the sergeant was not possible to excuses and a major cause of failure in any business. "The positive people seem to still be here. It shows that a smile and good nature, you can wear with most things."

On their last day of the march were four successful volunteer cap. The night before the march of the heroic story are narrated by Cameron. During the Franco drew Mexican War in 1863, the Legion is a farm house called Camerone where they were met by 2000 Mexican soldiers surrounded.

When men first walked on the moon, they planned with mathematical precision where they were going and how they get there. And they could communicate with home. But when Ferdinand Magellan five little wooden ships most of them for more than 70 feet [21 m], comparable to a length of a modern semitrailer left Spain in 1519, they sailed into the unknown. And they were all alone.

One of the boldest, bravest navigation tricks of all time, are traveling a MagellanMonument to the great age of exploration an age of courage and fear, euphoria and tragedy, God and Mammon. Let's go back, then to about 1480, when Ferdinand Magellan was born in northern Portugal, and take a look at the remarkable man who unlocked the world and in his epic journey.

From farm to page Fearless Mariner

The Magellan family are members of the nobility, so, as is the custom, while Ferdinand is still a young lad, he is known as a page at the royal court. The two discussed ways of reaching the Spice Islandsby southwest, through a strait El Paso rumored cut through South America and then across the ocean that Balboa recently discovered when he crossed the Panama Isthmus. They believe that, on the other side of this ocean lie the Spice Islands.

Magellan now aches to do what Columbus found to do the western route to the Orient, which he believes is shorter than the eastern route failed. But he needs financial support. "The Greatest Navigational Feat in History"

The three remaining vessels, surrounded by bleak fjords and snow-capped peaks, doggedly force their way through the winding road. In the south they spot numerous fires, possibly from Indian camps, so they call the land Tierra del Fuego, "Land of Fire."

The Pacific Ordeal

After five agonizingWeeks, they sail into a sea so calm that Magellan called it the Pacific. The men pray, sing hymns, and salute their conquest with their cannons. But their euphoria is short-lived. Alas for all they have ever experienced expected it, because this is not the little lake they expected it goes on and on and on, and the men get hungrier and weaker and sicker.

Antonio Pigafetta, a hardy Italian keeps a diary. He writes: "Wednesday, the twenty-eighth, 1520, we ...occurred in the Pacific Ocean, where we three months and 20 days were left without provisions. . . We ate only old biscuit powder and full of maggots and stinking from the dirt that had made the rats out. . . And we drank water that was yellow and stinking. We also ate the ox hides. . . , The Sawdust of wood, and rats, which cost half a crown each, moreover, were not enough of them to get. "Just as fresh trade winds fill their sails and clear water slips underher keel are the men from scurvy rot. Nineteen of the time they reach the Mariana Islands, on 6 March 1521 die.

But here, because of hostilities with the islanders they manage to get a little fresh food before leaving on. Finally, on 16 March seeing it in the Philippines. At last all the men eat, sleep and regained her health and strength.

Tragedy A Dream Reduced

However, they are the world's first explorers, uncontested. And De Elcano is a hero. Incredibly, to pay for the Victoria's 26 tons of spices for the entire expedition!

Magellan's name lives on

For years Magellan is denied his true place in history. Swayed by the reports of the mutinous captains, the Spanish smear his name,say he was tough and incompetent. The Portuguese label him a traitor. Unfortunately, he disappeared lied when he died, probably due to the suspension of her would be destroyed. But thanks to the indomitable Pigafetta one of the 18 explorers, and about 5 other members of the expedition, we at least have some record of this tragic, yet extraordinary, voyage.

Over time, history revised its appeal, and today the name Magellan is duly honored. And of course, we owe the name of the world's largest ocean the Pacific to Magellan.

Some of the basics (not necessarily in order of priority!)

Lighting - A rechargeable flashlight by someone like "Kambrook" with thousands of candles units, each corner with a beautiful sheen light ... can in daylight.

More Light! - A "miner's lamp" type of headsets torch left the hands free, even in bad weather for tricky jobs.

Knife - A good sharp knife is a must. It does not matter if the blade folding or is unknown asas long as it performed well. A device for sharpening the blade is a must, as (found in good hardware stores), a Swiss tungsten steel "iStor" for example.

Scissors - in fact, different sizes, some throwaway society, some good steel, they come in handy for all sorts of things and cut wire in a pinch.

Pliers - I like electrician's heavy-duty insulated handles with cutting blades made of good steel. They are expensive, but invaluable. A good backup is needle-nose pliers toAt least four inches long.

Screwdrivers - Everyone has a screwdriver on board, right? The problem is they are always too long, too short, curved and covered in grease or paint. Get a full-Box, flat face and Philips head and ensure that they at least 'Stanley' quality. Some people like reversible bladed species but beware the "Taiwan terror" that melt on contact with a screw head. Oh oh! Do not forget a small group of watchmakers screwdrivers for those tiny screws maddenly,live in the back of electronic equipment.

Hammers - Four different hammers are a priority. A nylon / rubber type passed inflicting blows without damage "Toffee Hammer" a small ball peen type and a pointed "ice pick" or welding for rust and scale hammer. The last is a good heavy sense seriously, if necessary thumping hammer.

Vice Grips - two couples, an eight-inch, good quality and a small pair of needle nose type for awkward corners. Do not be trying to buy cheapoyou will always regret the decision later.

Wrench or adjustable wrench - Two or three species are required. Cheapos wear quickly and leave the game with the quality of these instruments operating in ruin. Two about the same size allow a screw and nut undone. A really great is handy for unexpected tasks such as solving a tightening of the nut on the stern tube or even the mounting nut.

Drills - Two types here. One a cordless drill with charger. Always use a keyless chuck.A drill without a chuck key is about as useless as the Titanic struck an outboard motor. Note: If you have a cordless drill that the battery is dead on, you can clear it by soldering two wires, positive and negative, on the two battery terminals inside the drill handle to revive. These wires can contain two alligator clips and attached to a battery and the drill will be used everywhere. Make sure the cables are at least a meter long. At last a decent amount of metal twist drill with at least two spare batteriessmall drills should complete set up for drilling. You can, if space allows, make ready a hand drill for emergencies.

Wrenches - It always seems like you never have enough of those things. Wrench, metric and imperial, good quality, roll on a folding.

Electrical Cable Ties - What a great invention for those things! Make sure the different sizes of 30 cm to 5 cm long. They are life savers for almost any job where things must either be permanently secured ortemporarily. A quick cut with the forceps they freed immediately. I actually invested five dollars on a package of "reusable" but those that I bought from Bunnings lose actually work ... a great idea, but no cigar this time!

Adhesives - Several species are a must. Super glue tubes, at least two or three. A tube of silicon or the like. Also, a tube of 3M 5200 adhesive Navy. I have also found that the two-component epoxy waterproof purpose is "knead" by Selleys ideal for all types ofrepairs. Especially in wet areas, it will cure even underwater ... a must! (Note: You have to make several in their "Knead" the area so that the one that says, AQUA for wet areas).

Tape - adhesive tape, electrical, are packing tape and self-determination pooling range for these jobs' must be dry brown. "

Axe - A good hatchet for cutting through ropes, cables, and break free in an emergency.

Lubricant - A can of fat and displaces moisture like a can of WD40 lubricant. Even a small glassVaseline for such jobs as restrained O-rings and hoses.

Hose clamps - a plastic box of different size bull hose clamps stainless steel ... as many as you can afford.

Electrical requirements - these can varied, but they can not go wrong with the basics. Good quality electrical connectors and press tools to pay high returns in the long-term reliability. A good pair of "side cutter with insulated handles for all cable types is also important for fastand efficient repairs. Red and black electrical wires (different current levels) and the means of solder is really important, especially when cruising. A small butane or propane torch (refillable) is advisable. Do not forget, shrink tube connects for waterproof and it's really important that an electric multi-meter "license and a good book on how to identify and fix wiring problems. (Don Casey's book on boat electrics called "Sailboat Electrics(Its Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne would be a good leader) McGraw Hill from Boatbooks - Simplified 'published by International Marine. A working group know how to understand and resolve basic electrical fault could mean the difference between disaster and success on all offshore trip. Also do not forget the solder wire, of course by itself flux well for fast, efficient links.

MW2 Campaign - The Gulag

This stage begins with you in a helicopter, to "The Gulag" to use as you get near to take the sniper rifle no enemies on the roofs. The 1 Battalion Black Watch left Edinburgh with a train one evening, maybe in October 1958. We wore drill consisted of the kilt and TOS, etc. We have always traveled in kilts in those days. It's been so long that I forget which port we sailed from us. I think it was Portsmouth. Certainly in the south of England. We spent about twelve days to get a very old slow troop transport in Cyprus. There were brief stops at Gibraltar and Malta, where I went ashore. Dresswas Trews and blue hats. Most of the day was spent drinking in bars. No tourist nature sightseeing. A few days later the whole battalion was submitted for inspection to see that we have taken up any social ills. The journey through the Mediterranean was not unpleasant. Not much to do. A lot of lying around idle. Rather, crowded living quarters. The trick was to get up and wash and shave before everyone else.

When we arrived, we landed at Limassol lighters which took us ashore.Dressed in drill order, kilt and TOS, we were received by a Highlanders Pipe Band of the Argyll & Sutherland. We then got on buses and all things were to our camp in Polis, in the northwest corner of the island.

Life in camp. That winter we lived in eight-man tents. Somewhere in the camp was a primitive shower, which I may have visited once or twice. We washed and shaved out of chaos doses. I remember I bought a small burner to heat my water. If Ihad ended, the same water went around the tent. I then ate from the same box. I also bought a portable radio. I think everyone else was National Service, and thus broke. I know my pay when I started about three pounds per week. When I finished there was little more than five pounds. We were paid in cash each Friday, though, when we go out on the farm or from the camp of it, was over, but were cigarettes and razor blades were provided free of charge. Sometimes we were given a rum ration, when we were in the hills.The other military men have more than thirty shillings a week with a ten shilling allowance for married women and there were many. They married at eighteen or nineteen in those days.I was in the train signals. In the next lines were the Regimental Band and Pipes and Drums. We had two bands in those days. As we worked around the clock, we often had to practice about sleep during the day to the sweet lullabies of musicians on their instruments.

St Bartholomew's Church - A Journey Through Time Continues to Peruse Thomas Pritchard's Background

Thomas Pritchard's arrival at Jamestown in 1620 with the London Company and his subsequent contributions to the settlement of Virginia's Northern Neck are documented by primary and secondary sources alike on this side of the Atlantic. Still, his origin remains elusive.

Over the years, researchers have pinpointed less than a dozen Pri(t)chard families in England and Wales whose offspring named Thomas are viable candidates for the Virginia immigrant. The two families who best meet the criteria traced their descent from the Prichards of Penrhos Castle in Monmouthshire, Wales. Their line originated with Caradoc Vraich-Vras (520-570 A.D.), founder of the dynasty of princes between the Wye and Severn rivers.

When Penrhos Castle was attacked and destroyed in the Thirteenth Century, the family members spread throughout Monmouthshire and neighboring Glamorganshire. By the time our Thomas was born (between 1592 and 1596, based on official immigration lists), the two key family Seats were within twenty miles of each other.

In Llanover, four miles south of Abergavenny, served St. Bartholomew's Church, a parallel line Prichard for many generations. Apolished brass plate marking their graves beneath the outer wall of the Prichard pew commemorates William Prichard (ca. 1500-1565) and his son Matthew, High Sheriff for Monmouth (ca. 1545-1622).

David's cousin, Edward Prichard of Cardiff, Glamorganshire, is identified as a landlord and a son of Matthew Prichard. The sources are wills and land purchases found in the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, Cardigan and in the Public Record Office Archives of the United Kingdom.

Edward's will of 1612 names his wife Mary, his eldest son David, his second son Edward, daughters Margaret and Mary, and his third and youngest son Thomas. This Thomas Prichard disappears from local records about the time our Thomas set sail for Virginia.

By tradition, the eldest son in many British and Welsh families inherited the property, the second son entered a profession such as law, and the third son learned a trade. By helping his father build and repair the many houses inhabited by his tenants, this Thomas may well have acquired the carpentry and masonry skills sought by the London Company.

Hoping that the journey to our past is better illuminated by visiting the unique environment that may have firmed an ancestor's personality and life, my husband and I flew to Wales to visit Llancaiach Fawr Manor. It was restored during the 1990s and is now a museum, archaeology laboratory, and cultural center of Glamorgan.

We returned in May 2009, this time to Llanover in Monmouthshire's Usk Valley. One of three Welsh villages that are also private estates, it was the seat of William Pritchard's descendants until the mid-Eighteenth Century. Unlike crumbling Penrhos Castle, most of the buildings within Llanover are well preserved.

The focal point is St. Bartholomew's Church. Situated near the water where druidic worshipers gathered fourteen centuries ago, its nave dates to about 1150. The tower was added later and the chancel expanded. Two large apartments on the property are Ty Uchaf (Upper House) and Curt Porthir y (the court with the long veranda), houses of William and Matthew Prichard, respectively. A church booklet quotes a legend that another Prichard Court Farm homestead, a secret passage that had the house to the church.

The families in Ty Uchaf been overseer of the property, which is operated from many farms by tenants forever. Each farm is represented for generations in the Churchpew bearing its name. The farmhouses scattered throughout the district are attractive and substantially constructed of whitewashed stone. All belonging to Llanover are identified by a distinct border of gray paint around the eaves to avoid confusion with houses on adjacent estates.

Ty Uchaf, built in Georgian colonial style, sits far back from the lane meandering through the village/estate. As we drove past, guided by Jilly Jones, the Vicar's Warden, a sudden gust of wind disturbed a large drapery hanging across an open second floor window. For a brief moment, it resembled a ghost signaling from the past.

Jilly explained that Benjamin Waddington purchased Llanover Estate in 1792 from the last of the Prichard line. He left it to his daughter Augusta, later known as Lady Llanover. She lived until 1896 and was famous throughout Great Britain for the pedigreed Black Welsh Mountain sheep she raised, prompting the nursery rhyme, "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep." The herd is still grown on the property visible from the lane.

During the mid-nineteenth century, the St. Bartholomew's Church Choir and famous for the largemagnificent voices of its members. Welsh composer John Orlando Parry, a frequent guest of Lady Llanover, wrote many songs for the choir, among them a solo harp piece named "Ty Uchaf" in honor of his hostess.

Sadly, the church does not have sufficient membership today to support a choir, although there are two organs, one a small pump type, the other a pipe organ members are trying to preserve from the cold. Because the church's stone walls are several feet thick and it lacks a central heating system, the indoor temperature on that damp, raw day in early May felt much colder than the outside temperature.

The denomination of the church is Anglican (Church of England). Mrs. Jones told us that it is a favorite of Rowan Williams, the current Archbishop of Canterbury, who visited often while serving the Newport diocese. The Prichard family pew is three-sided, considerably larger than those representing the estate farms. The baptismal font in the center is surrounded by needlepoint kneeling pads made by the ladies of the church. Each design represents a line from the hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful."

The plaque honoring William and Matthew Prichard depicts each standing, dressed in armor, and wearing a sword. They have beards, no head covering, and hold their hands in prayer. Between them is the Pritchard coat-of-arms topped by a dragon's head holding a hand dripping with blood in its mouth. Other symbols thereon are three towers, three wolves heads, three lions, and three ravens. One cannot help wondering if Matthew's son Edward and grandson Thomas were present at his burial and sat in that very pew. Because Virginia records indicate that Thomas arrived twice in Jamestown, first in 1620 and again in 1624, it is possible that his return home was precipitated by the death of his grandfather in 1622. Soon after his return, he began buying considerable land in Virginia's Northern Neck, an indication that he could have come into an Inheritance.

The chorus frog is a large painting of the royal coat of arms with the motto "Deo et mon droit" (God is on my right side). Historians conclude that LadyLlanover had it painted between 1816 and 1837 to honor either King George IV or King William IV for bestowing the title upon her. The Arms of Hanover on the escutcheon show the Lion and the Unicorn emerging from the Garter Shield. After her death, it was painted over, but was rediscovered and restored in 1993.

The church tower contains a safe with the names and dates of parish births, marriages, and deaths copied from the crumbling originals. It is unfortunate for Pritchard descendants in America that the earliest baptisms and burial records extant go back only to 1661 and the marriages to 1754. Outside, dozens of early grave headstones have eroded to such an extent that many have only a tiny portion of the Prichard surname legible.

Except for the addition of electricity, little has changed on the Llanover estate since the Prichard line ceased ownership in the late eighteenth century. The bucolic surroundings are exactly as they appeared to the early families.

Despite our fervent pursuit of Thomas Pritchard's past, we have not yet located the essential primary source confirming that the young man mastering his trade at his father's side in Glamorgan is identical to the middle-aged "Captain" Thomas Pritchard of Nutmeg Quarter, Warwick County, Virginia who presented a petition to the assembly to unite with Denbeigh Parish and was elected in 1656 to represent Gloucester County in the Virginia House of Burgesses.

And so we are destined to continue wending our way through courthouses, cemeteries, libraries, genealogical publications, and Internet postings for that elusive fragment from the past confirming the irrefutable identity of our immigrant ancestor.

I'm not sure how many gorillas are in Amarillo, Texas, but sure it was an otter, icedog and Bull on the ice hockey in North Texas last season.

There were four Ontario Hockey League alumni on the Central Hockey League Amarillo Gorillas in 2009-10. Unfortunately, they could not help the team out of last place in the CHL Southern Division.

Joe Guenther played two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, 2000-01 and 2001-02. In his first season playing all 68 JoeGames for the Erie Otters and contributed 66 points. In his second season he was traded after 5 games on the Toronto St. Michael's Majors, where he has 44 points in 44 games.

Guenther professional hockey career has taken him to nine different teams eighth season, all in either the CHL or ECHL. Joe has found stability in Amarillo. He has just completed his second consecutive season with the team. He had the gorillas for part of the 2005/06 season played as well.

AndrewSmale played only one season in the OHL, 2001-02 with the Mississauga icedog. This season he played on the blueline for the team's 68 games of the regular season. After junior, Smale had a four-year stay in the Canadian university with the University of Toronto. This is his fourth season in the CHL, Amarillo with his first three with the New Mexico Scorpions.

Neil Smith played two seasons in the OHL with the partial Belleville Bulls, 2001-02 and 2002-03. He went to play on twoSeasons in the QMJHL with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles before a three-year career at Dalhousie University. 2009-10 Neil was second season with the Gorillas.

Mike Brown tended goal in the OHL for three seasons from 2002/03 to 2004/05. His first two and a half seasons with the Saginaw Spirit before they trade midway through his final season with the Owen Sound Attack. What the hell? There is a cock in the office? Wait, where am I? I wake up slowly from what is obviously a dream, maybe even have been a nightmare. Monday morning, 15 November 2004, 05:45 clock, Boca Sierpe, Costa Rica. Maybe it was the dream, but I jump with a sense of peace and rest knowing I'm home in my little casita in Boca.

Yes, it was roosters crowing at dawn, a very pleasant way towoke up. It's a quarter to six, and fairly easy to remove. I hear the waves in the boca (mouth of the river), birds of many varieties of each singing their morning song special. Howler monkeys in the jungle makes a noise like huge espresso machines nearby. I stand in awe when I made the front window overlooking the ocean with its deep blues and white as white foam crowns. There is a huge cumulus cloud over the ocean with the sun catch up bringing out pink and blue tones alongwith the big white billowing puffs. Ahh, that's life. It is difficult to roast my own coffee here, but Costa Rica has the best coffee in the world so it's not a problem. I boil water, which is removed through a tube about a half mile from a fresh mountain stream. I have a ceramic filter I run through it before cooking, but the locals drink it straight. I step on the porch in just shorts and a T-shirt wearing my freshly brewed coffee to sip.

I see my caretaker German(Say: Herman) pulls the canoe to the edge of the water with two red tanks of gas in it. He looks to see that I'm up and at it and will soon be heading upstream. He shakes my hand ("WE HERE Shake Hands" - a favorite phrase Crazy Mark) and says Buenos Dias Don Jim. We ask each other how we are, as we climb into the small fiberglass canoe. The canoe is still on the beach and he says to me, so they will not get wet, but I help him, at least until I wet my sandals. My backpack and notebook computers are in my plastic bag, just inCase, we should tip on the short canoe trip on the boat. We put the two gas cans and plastic bag in the 18-foot boat, the fiberglass is attached in a fluid directly on the beach. I thank Herman and saying goodbye.

It is a big job when I was in a position to Costa Rican move from small farm owner to have help more comfort in their golden years. I help others, like me, you will find a peace that we did not know existed. If I find a buyer and seller, everyone is happy, which is a rewarding feeling.

Back to my 40 minutes. Commute I find strength and head up river at a relatively slow speed as it still swells from the ocean into the river at this point that are making for a rough ride at high speeds. The owner, another mark, moved here from Iowa, operates about 20 years since the Lodge ever since.

At the end of the straight line we use to duck into a small canal, take a short cut to only be used for three quarters flood. I always do I'm super captain and will onlylittle faster than I probably should. I take my things and walk two blocks to the grocery store where we asmall office for our little real estate business.
